Bach Model 6 Trombones

Bach Model 6 - Serial Number 298 - 1933

This is the older of the two instruments.  The serial number places it as 1933 production.  Notes on the web indicated that Bach has completed the design in 1928 so this was a very new instrument design-wise.  Ths horn plays great and belies it's age.  It has a 7 inch bell and a 0.495 inch bore.  It is very bright and very loud and is a great lead horn.  The slide is lightweight and the small size of the horn makes the whole horn very lightweight.  There is no slide lock.  The playing characteristics are:  loud, bright, sure and slots peddle tones better than a bass trombone.  No wonder Pryor like this size horn.  This is not a small sounding instrument.

It appears the the lacquer has been removed from the bell section.  Note the "sleeve" on the upper slide tube.  The previous owner told me the the instrument need a slide repair long ago.  He couldn't recall the reason for the sleeve.  This slide is velvety smooth.

The discoloration is an illusion in the photo.  The slide has a uniform gold lacquer finish.

The pictures are indicative of the general condition of the instrument.  Pretty amazing.

There's some wear on the stockings but the slide is smooth.  Red arrows show two real sharp dings, literally the only dents on this instrument.  The dings could certainly be smoothed out.

Could very well be the original case.  The repairs are leather and are sewn and tacked, like upholstery.

Who is "Hans Bach?"  Anyone know?
