PORT CHESTER HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ BAND PLAYS STORE
OPENING SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2005

It was early (8:30 a.m. warm-up) it was long (ended around noon), it was very hot and really, really sunny.  But how often do you get a chance to play bass with 4 saxes, 2 'bones, 2 trumpets and drums.  I was subbing for the regular bass player and got the call the evening before.  My son plays trombone and I never turn down a gig.  We played "Pickin' up the Pieces" (AWB), "Tequila," "Malgueña" and my favorite, "Birdland" (Weather Report).  I have to say that the shoppers dug it and nearly every visitor to the store that morning stopped by to hear the band play a tune or two.  The store was accommodating, delivering mains power and refreshments.
